Inmanycases,thefileserverisrunningthePC'snativeoperatingsystem(suchasDOSor theMacintoshOS)aswellastheNOS.Whenusers'requestscomein,theNOSreceivesand interpretsthem,thenhandsthemtotheoperatingsystemforexecution.Soifarequest comesintoopenafile,DOSopensthefileandgivesittotheNOS,whichgivesittotheuser. Ifmanyusersmakerequestsatthesametime,theNOSqueuesthemandhandsthemtoDOS oneatatime.
