ABSTRACT
Theoretically there are a large number of designs of reactors in which the power from nuclear fission can be converted and recovered in a useful form. Constructional, operational and practical constraints dramatically reduce the range of economic options. Nevertheless a large number of operating prototype systems have been studied over the last three decades. From these a limited number of practical working designs have emerged.
