ABSTRACT

The Maine blueberry industry has 24,000 ha of lowbush blueberries yielding 35 million kg per year (5 year average) (Yarborough, 2002). Fields predominantly consist of wild clonal plants of Vaccinium angustifolium Ait. and V. myrtilloides Michx. that are occasionally interspersed with other species. Blueberry fields are thus comprised of a patchwork of genetically diverse clones of several species that are extensively managed to produce a commercial crop.
