ABSTRACT

The stress-induced supercooling A Te as a function of x is presented in Figure 10(b). It is seen that for misfits in the range of 0.6-1.0 % SIS increases from 3 to 7° C. Experimentally it is difficult to realize supercoolings A To larger than 10-12° C due to homogeneous nucleation in the bulk liquid or heterogeneous nucleation at the melt-crucible interface which is almost unavoidable for A To > 10° C. Thus, all experimentally accessible melt supercoolings occupy an area below a dashed horizontal line in Figure 10(b).
