ABSTRACT

In Chapter 7 we focussed attention on domains themselves, and not so much on the interfaces that separate one domain from another. We take a closer look at interfaces in this chapter. As in Chapter 7, we adopt a somewhat general approach, and discuss not only domain walls in ferroics but also interfaces in nonferroic materials, as well as interfaces between non-identical structures. This would help us in viewing phase boundaries and domain boundaries in ferroics in the larger perspective of heterophase and homophase interfaces in materials.
