ABSTRACT

Second harmonic generation in leaky resonators, such as prism or grating couplers, makes use of the resonant excitation of modes (guided waves, surface plasmons, etc.) in these x| 2 |-resonators. This topic has been widely studied [Х.1]. The associated electromagnetic resonance gives rise to an enhancement of the second harmonic intensity several orders of magnitude larger as compared to the off-resonance situation [Х.2]. This constitutes the value of this geometry for second harmonic generation, where modes may be excited at the pump and/or the second harmonic frequency.
