ABSTRACT
The analysis of unsteady confined flows with oscil lating boundaries has received an increasing re search interest for its applications to numerous engi neering problems. The unsteady annular flows between cylindrical structures executing transverse oscillations, which are of particular interest for flow induced vibration problems encountered in many engineering systems, have been studied theoreti cally, based on simplified theoretical models, and experimentally by numerous scientists, such as Chen et al. (1976), Inada & Hayama (1990), Mateescu and his coworkers (1985, 1987, 1988, 1989) and others.
