ABSTRACT
Depleted uranium (DU) is a by-product of the uranium enrichInent process used in the manufacture of nuclear fuels. In comparison to naturally occurring uraniuIn, DU contains a lower proportion of the isotopes 234U and 235U and a higher proportion of 238U (Table 1). It also contains trace amounts of 236U that are not present in natural uranium.
