ABSTRACT

Hydraulics is the study of fluids at rest and in motion. It is essential for an understanding of how water/wastewater systems work, especially water distribution and wastewater collection systems, both of which may rely heavily upon the motive force provided by pumps. Pumps, in tum, use energy to keep water and wastewater moving. To operate a pump efficiently, the operator and/or maintenance operator must be familiar with several basic principles of hydraulics.
