ABSTRACT
Supernatant BOD5 and TOA concentrations of piggery slurry provide useful indicators of potential odour nuisance. They have very highly significant logarithmic relationships with the odour offensiveness as assessed by a panel of people. Specific odorants including VFA, indoles and phenols are shown to be significantly less reliable.
