ABSTRACT

Taking into account the durability aspects of the European Commission regulations, all buildings and construction materials’ manufacturers have to comply with the requirements for CE marking, as CE marking for geotextiles has become mandatory from October 2002. Some of the important geotextile durability test methods are illustrated in Table 8. It must be noted that some of the discussions made in this Section and Section 2.3 have mainly focused on chemical durability of synthetic polymers that are generally used in the production of geotextiles. However, the mechanical durability of geotextiles such as creep, stress-strain behaviour, puncture etc. has been of significant importance and some of these properties have already been discussed (see Section 2.1).
