ABSTRACT

NEED OF DIRECT MEASUREMENT OF CHLORIDE IN FRESH CONCRETE

The chloride content had been long regulated to be below 0.01% of weight of sand as NaCl since 1953 in Japan Architectural Standard Specification for Reinforced Concrete Structure, published from Architectural Institute of Japan. The overwhelming increase of the use of sea sand, however, had not allowed to follow this stipulation satisfactorily in actual construction activities, and a large quantities of concrete containing a dangerous amount of chloride had been manufactured and placed in the structures.
