ABSTRACT

Abstract Quality control and condition analysis through non-destructive testing in concrete is one of the important issues in concrete construction. In this paper, a methodology for determining the distribution and amount of entrained air system in concrete is presented. Based on the developed methodology, to facilitate acceptance or rejection of the concrete at the construction site, a test method and apparatus is invented. The distribution and percentage of entrained air in freshly mixed concrete will be mea sured using Fiber Optics. Reflected light intensity measurements will determine the distribution of air bubbles in fresh concrete. The new Fiber Optic Airmeter's speed, reliability and accuracy has been examined through repeated experiments against conventional techniques.
