REMARK Rigorously taken the stationarity concept applies to a time series which is already in an equilibrium state so that the effect of the initial state x(0) has disappeared (which theoretically requires an infinitely distant initial time point). Because, however, the effect of the initial state usually becomes insignificant in a fairly short time, we speak about stationarity irrespective of this theoretical point.
