ABSTRACT
The proportioning of the components in the mortar is usually by volume, since this can be done on site with the simplest of equipment. The proportion of lime or cement to sand is normally 1:3 by volume. The properties of the mortar can be altered by changing the relative amounts of lime and cement in the mortar.
