ABSTRACT

Influence of the Mobile Phase Composition The logarithm of K is plotted against the organic modifier concentration,¢, in Fig. 7 [19]. The same ODS-silica gel was used as the stationary phase. As is well known, the logarithm of K increases linearly with decreasing value of¢ [36--42]. However, this linear relationship

is no longer valid and the apparent slope of the plots decreases when ¢ becomes lower than approximately 40% (v/v). An attempt was made quantitatively to interpret the change in K resulting from the change in ¢ by applying the solvophobic theory (next subsection).
