ABSTRACT
The works of Riemann about the non-Euclidean spaces were at the origin of the manifold differential geometry towards the mid-19th century. By the intrinsic consideration of manifolds within this new context, the Riemannian geometry contributes a great deal to modem developments of physics and the introduction of a metric is essential.
