ABSTRACT

The main throst behind good user documentation is "knowing the user." The content and format ofyour guide depend on your product and your audience. Without this cornerstone, creating a quality manual is virtually' impossible. Quality requires writing from the user's point of view. As you read this chapter, you will see the different building blocks of the Inanual development process. The first fe\\,' blocks involve building the team and including feedback from customers in the design process. The middle layer consists of gathering accurate information, good design and concise writing. The finishing layers consist of disseminating the information in its appropriate format to the audience.
