ABSTRACT
Many people believe translation and localization mean the same thing. But they do not. Translation is but a phase of localization. Localization, building and customizing a product to a specific market, starts during the user research phase and translation occurs later in the development cycle. A caveat here is that awareness of translation requirements must occur early in development so field lengths are adequate, the software code design facilitates translation, and hardware requirements are considered.
