ABSTRACT
The of oxide crystals may be discussed from two points of view [7,14-16]. The crystal may be considered to be composed of close-packed rigid spheres of oxygen with cations distributed in the interstices between these spheres, or it may be constructed from coordination polyhedra built of the central metal atom surrounded by oxygen atoms, linked together by corners, edges, or faces into an ordered periodic arrangement in space.
