ABSTRACT
One major consideration is machining of ceramic matrix composite materials. The term machining is used here to include production of flat faces, cutting of holes, and other types of material removal operations. Flat-face machining is required for many purposes including preparation of surfaces for joining. Holes can be required for mechanical joining as well as for other purposes such as cooling channels for high temperature aerospace applications. Other types of cuts are required for specific applications.
