ABSTRACT
In past decades different methods for the extraction of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from biofilms and activated sludge have been de veloped. The cause for this increased research activity has been a growing in terest in the composition and function of extracellular biopolymers and their influence on the properties of biofilms and activated sludge.
