ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 described the nature of shock waves and their effect on solids. Successful utilisation of this powerful tool for compaction requires development of suitable technologies to create, modulate and direct the shock wave in such a way as to create the required compaction of the given materials. This chapter describes the salient aspects of this technology.
