ABSTRACT

Over half the participants in the Benchmarking Forum report that their host organizations have a formal project group or office. The percentage is increasing as success stories accumulate that relate the positive results from applying professional project management in large functional organizations. Many people who join the Top 500 Project Management Benchmarking Forum are investigating project organization related best practices or hoping to implement a project management office or organization. The first information they gener­ ally request is a description of the steps taken by other best practices organizations in establishing the project group. In response, the con­ sensus of the benchmarking group is that the following actions are most commonly followed.
