In this chapter, our attention is focused on the discrete-time black-box modeling of linear dynamic systems. This type of model is commonly used in process identification, and is essential in digital process control. From the point of view of control, the simplicity of black-box models has established them as a fundamental means for obtaining input-output representations of processes.
