ABSTRACT
Recommended limits of deflection are given in Eurocode 5. For longterm deflections the following limits are proposed:

viceability limit state depends to what extent deflection criteria are decisive for the design of typical structural elements. To illustrate the practical significance of deflection requirements in comparison with ultimate limit state design some results are given in what follows for straight beams made of glulam and timbers.
