ABSTRACT

Abstract The design of ceramic components requires the knowledge of material para­ meters which describe the subcritical, stable, and unstable extension of flaws. The effect of increasing crack growth resistance with increasing crack extension complicates the description of the failure behaviour. The material parameters can be calculated from different test results. Mult iaxial failure criteria based on Weibul l statistics combined with fracture mechanics considerations al low the optimization of components. This is shown for notched components .
