ABSTRACT
The violent earthquakes of recent years set into evidence the essential role of plastic deformations in the behavior of load carrying structures. To make certain that failure will take place within normal sections having an adequate ductility, the mixed steel-concrete elements should have such a structure that the shearing forces would be carried in optimum conditions, thus creating some plastic yielding joints.
