ABSTRACT

Abstract In the very last years the seismic design approach, based on the structural response control, has gained more and more attention by the research community and by the professionals. An increasing number of applications of structural control in the design of buildings has been recently registered in Japan, DSA, New Zealand and Europe. In this report the basic principles and the most recent applications of the different control systems are reviewed. A special attention, concerning design and research items, is devoted to base isolation system, which is the most widespread control technique to date. In the last section of this report the papers presented in the session on base isolation and energy dissipation are reviewed. Keywords: Structural Response Control, Energy Dissipation, Active Control, Base Isolation, Seismic Design.
