ABSTRACT

Abstract The frequent occurrence of strong earthquakes in Romania poses some direct impact on engineering activities. The report is intended to present the experience of Romanian structural engineers in the field of seismic-resistant steel structures. The last very strong earthquake from 1977 and the produced damages in steel structures are related. The evolution of the approaches on design codes and the presentation of theoretical and experimental research works performed last time in Romania shows that this activity is one of the most important in the field of structural engineering.
