ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper describes the development, over a number of years, of the use of case studies to support the teaching of materials engineering and mechanical engineering at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. These developments have been used successfully in technician engineer and professional engineer courses on full and parttime study modes. The case studies have been particularly successful in integrating a wide range of disparate parts of the syllabus, and providing students with deep learning. Motivation has been very good. KeyWords: Case studies, problem based learning, failure analysis.
