ABSTRACT

Abstract This report is devoted to the Spanish experience in teaching fatigue and fracture mechanics in the framework of civil engineering courses. Formative and cognitive objectives of teaching are mentioned, as well as different teaching methods. Emphasis is placed on the degree of application of fracture mechanics techniques in civil engineering design, particularly in structural mechanics. Some open questions concerning specific problems in teaching fatigue and fracture mechanics are discussed in the final section.
