ABSTRACT

Abstract Most of the southern territory of Portugal, the Alentejo, is under annual and inter annual irregular availability of water resources. Furthermore, this is a region where agriculture has a determining influence as an economical activity, and also where significant decreases in population have been observed during the past few years. The different ways of managing the irrigation projects established by the Government have been strengthening a system o*f practices and attitudes towards water use, in which water is seen essentially as having value in use and with almost no price.
