ABSTRACT

The origins of CAC, otherwise date back as far as the work of Fremy who reported in 1865 that good hydraulic properties were obtained from various melts of lime and alumina [4]. Commercialization of CACs really began in 1910 with the work of Bied [5,6] at the laboratories of the Societe J. and A. Pavin de Lafarge in Le Teil, France. These investigations originally centred upon the production of cements resistant to sulphate attack and followed on from work undertaken on mortar and concrete deterioration in sulphate-containing ground waters and sea water. High early-strength properties and good sulphate resistance were found for CACs. Refractory applications followed in due course.
