ABSTRACT
Our knowledge of the hydration processes has expanded considerably since this chapter first
appeared, mostly due to the application of modern instrumental methods of analysis, but a universally accepted view of hydration still awaits detailed formulation. While we are able to describe the hydration processes in considerable detail now, there are still important issues, which await universal agreement. This chapter attempts to address the debatable issues, while still providing an overarching description of the hydration processes.
