ABSTRACT

Immunotoxicology was and still is primarily an area of experimental toxicology. Therefore, immunotoxicologists focused their efforts on unravelling the fundamental mechanisms of immunotoxicity and designing new methods and strategies to conduct relevant non-clinical immunotoxicity evaluations of xenobiotics. In recent years however, the clinical aspects of immunotoxicity have become a matter of growing interest and investigation (Salvaggio, 1990; Burrel et al, 1992; Newcombe et al, 1992).
