In addition to the haze intrinsic to the molecular nature of polyethylene, it is possible to increase the haze level by accidentally or deliberately incorporating another material with a different refractive index that forms separate domains with dimensions on the order of the wavelength of light. The blooming of foreign materials to the surface of polyethylene to form droplets can also contribute to surface roughness.
