ABSTRACT
In fluid power systems a filter's chief function is to keep working fluid (oil or air) free of contamination (Table 19.1). Each kind of fluid has peculiarities, so this introduction will examine the natures of the fluids as well as the needs of the systems. Hydraulic filters will be treated separately from pneumatic filters, and the available filtering media for both will be discussed independently at the end.
