ABSTRACT

The worlds of computing and audio/visual communications have converged, and one of the most powerful outcomes of this union is personal conferencing. Personal conferencing leverages a variety of distance-collaboration tools that are easily used at a personal computer. Personal conferencing used to be synonymous with desktop conferencing, but wireless broadband and enhanced mobile devices are making personal conferencing possible virtually anywhere. They leverage components that are already part of the standard, multimedia desktop: a high-resolution monitor, a powerful microprocessor, speakers, a microphone, and a fast network connection. Personal conferencing simply requires the addition of software, a camera, a video capture board, and a network adapter.
