ABSTRACT
This chapter develops basic results for a continuous group that is generated by a free parameter, hereafter denoted as α. Each element of the group therefore corresponds to a specific value of this parameter. The group is continuous because α can vary continuously over the real numbers. Our discussion begins by first defining an arbitrary group, after which we focus on continuous groups.
