ABSTRACT

Other deep sea minerals have been found; these include polymetallic sulphides formed at oceanic spreading zones by a leaching action and metalliferous mud in the Red Sea. The quantities of sulphides are not yet known but the Red Sea deposit is of commercial interest and is to be exploited by the joint owners, Saudi Arabia and Sudan. A system for extracting the mud and pumping it some 2000 m to the surface is described by Hahlbrock (15).
