ABSTRACT

A newborn baby boy born at 32 weeks of gestation is transferred to your neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at 12 hours of age for abdominal distention. The baby was born by emergency Cesarean section, after premature rupture of membranes and evidence of fetal distress, to a 22-year-old, G1P1 woman with a history of smoking and cocaine use during the pregnancy and inconsistent prenatal care. He was intubated at birth for respiratory distress. Abdominal distention was noted at 6 hours of age.
