ABSTRACT

Fetal ultrasound performed at 24 weeks of gestation in a 26-year-old, G1P0 patient shows an intestinal loop measuring 1.5 cm, suspicious for obstruction, in a male fetus. Repeat ultrasound at 28 weeks, shown in Figure 37.1, demonstrates increase in the diameter of the distended loop to 2.3 cm, with a scalloped appearance, leading the perinatologist to conclude that it is colonic in origin. Amniotic fluid volume, abdominal circumference, and the remainder of the fetal survey are normal.
