ABSTRACT

A 30-year-old, healthy, G2P1 Caucasian woman and her husband are sent to see you for fetal consultation, after a fetal ultrasound performed at 34 weeks of gestation demonstrated a cystic mass in the lower abdomen of a female fetus. The mass was not seen on the ultrasound performed at 20 weeks of gestation, and the pregnancy has proceeded well without any complications. The ultrasound, shown in Figure 45.1, demonstrates a thin-walled cyst that appears to have some debris and a fluid-fluid level. It measures approximately 3.7 cm in greatest dimension. The ovaries could not be visualized. There is no evidence of ascites, intestinal dilatation, or other anomalies. The remainder of the fetal survey is normal. The patient was planning to deliver in the community hospital, where she received her prenatal care.
