ABSTRACT

You are called by the maternity ward to evaluate a term male newborn at 30 hours of age, who is being considered for discharge with his mother the day after delivery. The pregnancy was uncomplicated. Prenatal ultrasounds performed at 20 and 34 weeks of gestation were unremarkable. The baby was born by spontaneous vaginal delivery to a healthy, 27-year-old, G1P1 woman. He fed on the breast and passed meconium normally.
