ABSTRACT

A 7-year-old boy of East Asian origin is being seen in the pediatric surgery clinic the day after he presented to the emergency department with dysuria and difficulty urinating. The boy had a known history of phimosis and had been treated with three courses of 0.05% betamethasone cream over 6 months. He was able to void in the emergency department and the bladder was nonpalpable post voiding. A urinalysis showed 3–5 red blood cells per high-power field, but was otherwise normal. The emergency department physician discharged the patient and arranged for follow-up the following day.
