ABSTRACT

A 4-year-old boy is brought to your pediatric trauma center by his parents 6 hours after suffering an injury. He was climbing a television stand to get a remote control when the stand and the television fell on his abdomen. He had no loss of consciousness, but has been complaining of steadily increasing abdominal pain and has vomited once. On evaluation, the child is awake and responsive. His vital signs are all within normal for age. The abdomen is not distended, but is tender in the epigastrium and right upper quadrant without frank peritoneal signs. There are no external signs of trauma on the abdominal wall. The remainder of the trauma survey is normal.
