ABSTRACT

Correlations make good news stories. If a correlation is found between financial condition and marital breakups, a story for the Sunday features will result. A correlation of grades in school with later job success, especially if it is negative and so makes a lot of people happy, will rate an article on page 2 or 3. A page 1 write-up is assured if anything at all is shown to be correlated with cancer, heart disease, or sexual activity.
