ABSTRACT

The lab bench is the work station for the investigator. Generally, the work surface, or counter, is 36" high, as in a domestic kitchen. The worker stands or sits at a high stool. It is ideal to provide some knee space under the counter, but typically, base cabinets, small refrigerators, freezers, or storage boxes fill most cavities below the countertop. Satisfactory lighting conditions at the work surface is a paramount concern. Illumination intensity should be 90 - 100ft-candles without glare, and it is generally ideal to have a major of daylight.
