ABSTRACT
The value of animals in biomedical research has increased substantially with the advent of gene transfer technology. Embryo micro-injection and other gene implantation procedures hold great promise in conquering genetic diseases. The value of a single transgenic white mouse could easily exceed $100,000 when the time and effort required to effect a successful gene transfer is considered.
